History of Waltons Hotel Dublin, Ireland
In 1922 Martin Walton a gold medal violinist founded Waltons Music Shop in Dublin. From Humble beginnings he had started teaching from one small room in number four North Frederick Street, supplementing his teaching earnings playing violin and organising orchestras around Dublin for silent movies.
During the nineteen twenties he began selling violins and other instruments and in the nineteen thirties he began publishing Irish songs and music.
By the nineteen fifties he had started the famous Glenside record label and the much loved Waltons radio programme which always finished with the words “If you do feel like singing do sing an Irish song”
Three generations later Waltons are renowned worldwide for their associations with Irish Music.
Waltons are established as Ireland's leading publishers of Irish Music, makers of Irish Instruments and Ireland's largest retailers of musical instruments.
Waltons stores have been visited by thousands of visitors to Dublin City in the last eighty years to savour the unique atmosphere and the traditional of Irish Culture that Waltons has created.
Five Georgian houses on North Frederick Street make up Waltons Hotel, with one of the Waltons Music Shops located at the side of the hotel.
